Alcatraz Media provides bulk bandwidth to its customers to ensure that they continue to receive the highest quality service.
What is the difference between bandwidth and data transfer?
Bandwidth is the maximum rate at which data may be transmitted over a point to point connection such as IP (Internet) and radio frequency (5.8GHz, 2.4GHz, 900MHz). Data transfer cannot exceed the limit of the connection. Though in some cases bursting past the limit is possible.
Data transfer is the sum of the size of data that is being sent and received. This is represented in kilobits (kbit), kilobytes (KByte), Megabyte (MB) and Gigabyte (GB).
Most hosting providers wether they provide web, IRC or streaming services charge for data transfer on a per gigabyte or megabyte basis. This can lead to costly overage charges if you exceed your monthly limit.
What is Alcatraz Media's bandwidth and data transfer policy?
Alcatraz Media does not charge for data transfer or bandwidth. Our servers are fully burstable to 100Mbit. However, we do reserve the right to cap the maximum upload or download bandwidth in cases of extreme usage.
